My First Smut

My First Smut: God Bless Carpooling

My First Smut is a recurring feature where we talk about our formative smut experiences. These short confessionals may include such details as: What book did you read? How old were you? Were there other people involved? What made the experience special? What role does smut play in your life?

This week, romance author Constance Kersaint talks about avoiding a future as a nun due to the influence of Johanna Lindsey.

First romance novel you read:

Johanna Lindsey – Man of My Dreams

How old were you?

8 (yes, very precocious:-D)

How’d you get your hands on the book?

School carpool driver had thrown it on the floor of the Suburban

What was the reading experience like?

So very, very confusing. I was 8 and attending a Catholic school.

What made the experience special?

For an immigrant kid growing up in the Midwest, THIS was my introduction to the wild world of romance. We were so repressed, reading about lawn shirts and dukes and Georgian England was a RIDE. Seriously, due to this, I avoided a future as a nun (no joke, I was close during discernment) to the person I am today, a mother of 2 who writes romance novels with the husband who is long-suffering enough to accept it all.

What role does smut play in your life?

Well, for one, I am a romance author, and for two, that is for my husband to suffer through. He said no to the swing though.

Look, I’m blushing. We’re good here:-)
