Review: Whiteout by Adriana Anders (2020)

Survival Instincts, #1

Heat Factor: There’s only one sleeping bag!

But most of the heat comes from kisses because it’s too cold to actually remove clothing. (Don’t worry! There’s still danger banging!)

Character Chemistry: It’s amazing what stripping away everything but survival will do for a couple.

Plot: Trek across Antarctica in the winter while being chased by scary bad guys.

Overall: Starts with a bang, ends with…less of a bang.

Review: Village Fool by ‘Nathan Burgoine (2021)

A Little Village Novella

Heat Factor: Sweet little kisses

Character Chemistry: They actually interact very little, but the way the story is told made me really want this for them

Plot: Man has had a secret crush on his former physiotherapist since physiotherapy started, and it gets blown wide open when his friend plays an April Fool prank on him

Overall: Some people might be super stressed by this prank, but I thought this story was ADORABLE

Review: My Fake Rake by Eva Leigh (2019)

The Union of the Rakes, Book 1

Heat Factor: Two steamy sex scenes in the last few chapters

Character Chemistry: Gotta love a man in glasses, but Sebastian is too woke for his own good

Plot: In order to attract some dude’s attention, Grace gets her friend Sebastian to pretend to woo her. Because dudes gotta have competition to think a woman is sexy, obviously.

Overall: Too much winking at the audience for my taste

Review: A Viking’s Peace by Zoe York (2014)

Vikings in Space, Book #1

Heat Factor: Space Vikings are sex Vikings, in fact

Character Chemistry: ”These feelings are not appropriate for this mission.” → “My mate was brought to my planet by the gods.”

Plot: She’s a diplomat from Earth, He’s the son of the king of Midgard, and this diplomatic mission is not supposed to include any funny business.

Overall: I was entertained

Review: Home for Christmas by Susan Craig (2019)

Cedar Hill, Book 4

Reviews of Cedar Hill Book 1, Book 2, Book 3

Heat Factor: Some nipple action, then fade to black

Character Chemistry: He pursues her aggressively, and she seems to like it

Plot: She’s the one for me! Now I must convince her of this immutable truth

Overall: People who are fans of one-sided courtship books might really enjoy this one, but it seriously did not work for me
