Review: Liar City by Allie Therin (2023)

Sugar & Vice, Book #1

Heat Factor: Yeah, so, we barely even know they like each other at the end of this one

Character Chemistry: I don’t know how Therin managed it, but I wanted them to touch SO BADLY even though 1) it’s dangerous and 2) they mostly snip at each other

Plot: Empaths are a persecuted group, feared for their abilities even though they have to be pacifists (and vegans) by virtue of their extreme empathy, except that there’s a triple homicide that looks suspiciously like Reece’s nightmares, and the man rumored to keep empaths in check suddenly arrives in town.

Overall: It is not actually a romance (yet), but it is SO FREAKING GOOD

Review: Proper Scoundrels by Allie Therin (2021)

Heat Factor: Well hello, on page sex, I did not expect to see you here

Character Chemistry: Uh, grumpy cynic is soft for tortured cinnamon roll. YES PLEASE

Plot: The relics are BACK! With an aura-sucking vampire paranormal, a rude English Viscount who finds himself in the middle of a situation he knows nothing about, and a Puerto Rican nullification magic paranormal who has an overdeveloped sense of responsibility and a tragic past

Overall: I am so delighted I might go back and read Magic in Manhattan all over again so I can get some more vibes

Review: Wonderstruck by Allie Therin (2021)

Magic in Manhattan, Book #3

Reviews of Magic in Manhattan Book #1 and Book #2

Heat Factor: Extremely low key, still fade-to-black

Character Chemistry: Every time Arthur calls Rory “Teddy” (his real name that only Arthur uses), I turn into a puddle of goo

Plot: We’re finally going to come face to face with the evil baron and save the world!

Overall: I’m glad I read this trilogy.

Review: Starcrossed by Allie Therin (2020)

Magic in Manhattan, Book #2

Review of Magic in Manhattan, Book #1

Heat Factor: They have some great conversations, but then it’s fade to black

Character Chemistry: “We haven’t discussed the particulars of our relationship, so I shouldn’t feel jealous and possessive, but I dooooooooooooooo!”

Plot: The second act adds to the drama and the relationship angst

Overall: If you haven’t read Spellbound, go back and start there. If you have, what are you waiting for?!

Review: Spellbound by Allie Therin (2019)

Magic in Manhattan, Book 1

Heat Factor: It’s absolutely fade-to-black, but also Arthur has a whole stern daddy thing going on, which, as we know, I am here for

Character Chemistry: I texted on the group chat: “This Allie Therin paternalistic hero is really doing it for me”

Plot: Young man with magic underestimates/fears his powers until forced to confront his abilities when swirled into magical intrigue by slightly older man

Overall: This book was so marvelous in so many ways that the only downside is that it’s not a standalone.
