Review: A Change in Tide by Freya Barker (2020)

Northern Lights, Book #1

Heat Factor: There is a good deal of self-love happening before the loving each other happens

Character Chemistry: Overall good, but she played some games with him that I didn’t like

Plot: Woman decides she wants to figure out how to push past her PTSD agoraphobia anxiety for the life she wants. Man decides to focus on family after his hockey career is ended.

Overall: Everything is just fine.

Review: Badass by Carla R. (2020)

Bombshell Series, Book 1

Heat Factor: It’s fairly steamy

Character Chemistry: It’s love-at-first sight, raring to go type thing

Plot: Molly runs a hair salon and is in the middle of a string of terrible dates when she meets Brenden, the new firefighter in town. But Molly’s having some terrifying incidents with a stalker and it’s getting NUTTY…

Overall: This was a solid debut and I was very happy with the suspense.

Review: Strictly Come Dating by Kathryn Freeman (2020)

Heat Factor: More of a Viennese Waltz than a Tango

Character Chemistry: I liked that they didn’t try to fight it

Plot: He’s a 27-yo free spirit, she’s a 37/38-yo obsessed with structure, so of course forced proximity leads to a “fling”

Overall: I was mostly able to let go of people being messy and enjoy a charming romance, but there were some latent value judgements I didn’t like

Review: Here to Stay by Adriana Herrera (2020)

Heat Factor: It’s bordering on a slow burn, but not TOO slow.

Character Chemistry: There are so many ways these two are complimentary for one another that it’s hard to summarize.

Plot: Julia left NYC with her ex and moved to Dallas only to get dumped and left with a spacious apartment and a new job at a charitable foundation she absolutely loves. However–the consultant hired to take the company affiliated with the foundation public is super dreamy, etc, and it’s a big hot mess because Julia and Rocco want to make a big hot mess with each other while their jobs are on the line. It’s a whole thing. Hard to explain. Better just read it.

Overall: This book was really, really good and I highly recommend it.

Review: The Curious Touch of Cupid’s Son: An Erotic Comedy Between Two Consenting Demigods by Dave Diotalevi (2020)

Heat Factor: Orgasms for everyone!

Character Chemistry: Cosmic partners plus banter

Plot: Let’s fix this orb of the gods! And also find my mom. And also discover the true meaning of love.

Overall: I had loads of fun, but I bet my fellow smut-reporters would find parts of this book off-putting
