Review: The Sword Dancer by Jeannie Lin (2013)

Tang Dynasty, Book #4

Heat Factor: A bit of sizzle.

Character Chemistry: Literal sparring partners. Like, with swords. 

Plot: Le Fing is a bandit. Han is a thief-catcher. He’s chasing her around China after she was maybe involved in stealing some jade. Then they team up because there is something bigger afoot. 

Overall: I gobbled this one up. Nom nom nom.

Review: Thief of my Heart by Karla Kratovil (2020)

Hearts of Stoneleigh Manor Book 2

Heat Factor: It’s way hotter than my usual fare.

Character Chemistry: So, they kiss in the first few pages and it’s pretty clear from then on they’re a good match.

Plot: Emma has a whole crew of siblings and dogs she’s responsible for after the unexpected death of her father. Her Uncle teaches her how to be a cat burglar, and she steals jewelry from the wealthy to keep their family afloat. HOWEVER. When she tries to steal a ruby necklace from the Duke of Gilchrest’s mother, she finds her plans foiled and then he turns out to be a really strong sort of cinnamon roll (a cinnamon cookie? A ginger snap? Should we make that a thing?) and everything unravels from there.

Overall: This book is so fresh and gripping–I could not put it down.

Character Chemistry: If you’re looking for a 380-page grovel, you’ve come to the right place

Plot: Stay with me – He tried to kill her when they were kids – Stay with me! – Now he’s a fraudulent duke – Stay with me – And she’s the queen of the Covent Garden criminal underground

Overall: MacLean nailed the close on this trilogy.

Heat Factor: One extremely sexy F/F encounter

Character Chemistry: Slow to start, but they have their moments

Plot: Con artist infiltrates mining corporation in search of incriminating data, falls for boss

Overall: This is an excellent heist book and a middling romance
