Review: The Calyx Charm by May Peterson (2021)

The Sacred Dark, Book #3

Heat Factor: It has a few steamy moments in an otherwise churning sea of what’s going on

Character Chemistry: I mean, they’re meant to be in a deep, deep way

Plot: There’s a whole lot of aftermath, but essentially we meet Violetta and Tibario, who loved each other secretly when Violetta was known as Mercurio, and who find their way to each other after Tibario comes back from the dead.

Overall: This book is kind of like a dream, and everything is floaty and confusing except for what Violetta and Tibario have together.

Review: Persephone’s Curse by Sandra Bats (2018)

Persephone’s Curse, Book #1

Heat Factor: It’s pretty steamy—kind of like the warmth emanating from the alleyway trash can fires of this dystopian world

Character Chemistry: There’s certainly a “us against the world” dynamic that is immediate and satisfying

Plot: Elin is the only successful escapee from government run insemination labs created to attempt to evade a fatal virus called Persephone’s Curse. Jayden is an escaped soldier who has successfully created a haven for government outcasts in an old school. Together they try to save their sisters and their newfound family while they navigate a relationship in what is (TW) a pretty cruel world where rape has become a way of life.

Overall: I wish I had DNFed this book because I was really upset when I finished reading it.

The setting is a world almost entirely based around victimizing women, so I would advise those who have difficulty reading about rape and assult to skip this review (and book).

Review: Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh (2006)

Psy-Changeling, Book #1

Heat Factor: They both think they’re having sex dreams about each other, but it’s actually real

Character Chemistry: It’s always fun when the protagonist knows fated mates is a thing but has no idea how that manifests and it takes a while for everyone to figure it out

Plot: She’s trying to avoid being lobotomized because she has feelings, he’s trying to hunt down a serial killer, they’re fated mates

Overall: Nalini Singh is a queen, and I shouldn’t start a 19 book series right now, but I’m hooked

Review: Deal with the Devil by Kit Rocha (2020)

Mercenary Librarians, Book #1

Heat Factor: They’re both modified humans, so they can only have super-strength sex with each other. And they do.

Character Chemistry: The fact that you could kill me without breaking a sweat is pretty hot, but I don’t trust you at all…….Dang it, I’m starting to genuinely like you.

Plot: (Dystopian futuristic landscape) Cross, double-cross, rescue (Loads of fighting)

Overall: Adventure boner for sure.

Series Review: Fireblood Dragon by Ruby Dixon (Books 1-3)

Heat Factor: His tongue is like a cat’s. And he uses it. A lot.

Character Chemistry: It’s mostly an animal sort of chemistry.

Plot: Dragon man retrieves human woman bait sacrifice and claims her for his own. She has thoughts about that.

Overall: This was so special in very good ways.
