Review: The Will Darling Adventures by KJ Charles (2020-2021)

Heat Factor: They just crash into each other. It’s intense.

Character Chemistry: The way that Will knows he can’t trust Kim but also just really wants to love him is *chef’s kiss*

Plot: After WWI, Will Darling struggled with the return to civilian life until his uncle bequeathed him a bookshop. A bookshop that embroils him in a conspiracy, and brings into his life the perturbing and slippery Kim Secretan.

Overall: Exceptional. Absolutely exceptional.

Review: Book Boyfriend by Kris Ripper (2022)

Heat Factor: This one’s a proper slooow burn: no sex, barely even kisses

Character Chemistry: heavily centered on PK’s pining for Art

Plot: PK’s been in love with his best friend since college, and just when he thinks that Art will finally realize PK’s the boyfriend they’ve always wanted, Art’s dismissive comments crush PK into writing the perfect boyfriend into a romance novel

Overall: This one’s for readers who like single-protagonist personal growth arcs, super slow burns, and personal accountability

Review: Angling for You by Adele Buck (2022)

All for You, Book 1

Heat Factor: Respect is sexy, especially in bed.

Character Chemistry: They just really like each other.

Plot: Sam always stands on her own feet. When she meets Graham, she realizes that being self-sufficient is kinda lonely, and that maybe she’ll be ok if she lets others help her sometimes.

Overall: Sometimes you just want a gentle, calm book, and this fits the bill. Plus, I learned more than I ever thought I’d know about fly fishing!

Review: Rash and Rationality by Ellen Mint (2020)

Happily Ever Austen, Book 2

Heat Factor: The sex scenes come late, but I was legit fanning myself.

Character Chemistry: Believable best friends with confusing pants feelings.

Plot: Gender swapped Sense and Sensibility. But only the Marianne / Willoughby / Colonel Brandon bit.

Overall: The Official Austen Retelling Expert at The Smut Report Approves.
