Review: For Butter or Worse by Erin La Rosa (2022)

Heat Factor: It’s a nice amount of heat…think spice in chocolate.

Character Chemistry: Dead serious, this is the BEST enemies to lovers set up I’ve read in a long time. Meticulously done.

Plot: Nina and Leo are co stars on a culinary reality show–when Nina reaches her breaking point in dealing with Leos’ crap and quits. In order to save their respective restaurants after the messy episode airs, Nina and Leo decide to embark on a fake relationship to stir up good press. Only, it gets REAL. Real juicy.

Overall: The second I saw the tiniest hint that these enemies were actually going to fall for each other, my jaw dropped. It was just deliciously done–and honestly, extra points for the bold and punny title.

Hard Play, Book #4

Reviews of Hard Play, Book #1, Book #2, Book #3

Heat Factor: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Is there anything like a conflagration of lust? There is not.

Character Chemistry: Perfection

Plot: Danny and Catie have enjoyed being each other’s nemeses since they were children, but when the media speculates they’ve hooked up, they decide to fake a relationship for a few months for the sake of their careers

Overall: Catnip. Pure, unadulterated catnip.

Review: D’Vaughn and Kris Plan a Wedding by Chencia C. Higgins (2022)

Heat Factor: The making out is hot and heavy (plus there’s some sex, too)

Character Chemistry: Their families believe it instantly, but there’s no way this can be anything but fake. Right?

Plot: Kris and D’Vaughn are on a reality show where they have to convince their families that they’re in love—and then plan a wedding together

Overall: Utterly charming

Series Review: Embers Duology by Victoria Larque (2021)

Heat Factor: Pretty low heat, considering this is a demon romance

Character Chemistry: Fane teasing Mihr is the highlight of this duology

Plot: A demon and an angel escape from Hell together and make a lot of people really angry in the process

Overall: Demon Rising is really fun, but Angel Falling kinda dragged

Dueling Review: Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie (2004)

Holly’s Take

Heat Factor: He eats donuts off her boobs

Character Chemistry: It’s fate

Plot: A comedy of errors ensues when Min and Cal (attempt to) resist the universe’s plan for them to be together

Overall: Couldn’t put it down

Ingrid’s Take

Heat Factor: Kissing while eating donuts has never been so steamy

Character Chemistry: It’s instantaneous and angry, then alllll the sexy tension

Plot: Min’s ex tries to get Cal to bet over her—but the more they try to avoid each other, the more they end up attached at the hip

Overall: I was shocked by how much I enjoyed this book

Erin’s Take

Heat Factor: It’s a very slow burn, but she does get tied to a couch

Character Chemistry: This is a push-you-pull-me that works marvelously

Plot: Min is about to approach Cal when she overhears that she’s the subject of one of his bets, so she accepts his invitation out of spite, and fate takes the wheel

Overall: I didn’t like all the stuff that happened in this book (and I wasn’t supposed to, either), but I really liked the book
