Series Review: Irresistible by Stella Rhys (2017-2020)

Heat Factor: Spicy hot. Memorably spicy hot. Hot, hot, hot.

Character Chemistry: There might be some couples that are more explosive than others, but they’re all deliciously meant-to-be.

Plot: This is a steamy series that revolves around tangentially related sports stars, agents, and related characters in NYC and LA.

Overall: I initially read Now or Never (Book 5) because I heard it was a really fantastic example of praise kink, and holy schmoly. All of them are slam dunks.

Review: Husband Material by Emily Belden (2019)

Heat Factor: Barely kisses

Character Chemistry: I remain unconvinced

Plot: Charlotte finally comes to term with her husband’s death

Overall: Exceptionally irritating but, for some reason, I read the whole thing

Review: The Donut Trap by Julie Tieu (2021)

Heat Factor: There’s a closed door scene that I’m not totally sure added anything

Character Chemistry: If not getting along most of the time is your love language then yes, there’s chemistry

Plot: Jasmine is in her early 20s and her life’s a mess

Overall: Women’s fiction marketed as romance strikes again!

Review: It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey (2021)

Heat Factor: It’s a slow-but-steady scorcher.

Character Chemistry: Folks…we have a classic Grumpy/Sunshine on our hands!!!

Plot: Piper tries to wrest control of her breakup narrative in a way that lands her in jail…so her wealthy stepfather sends her and her sister to the town they were born in, where they are meant to live in the bar apartment they inherited from their father for three months to SHAPE UP, and there she meets Brendan, the cranky sea captain who stole my heart. I mean, her heart.

Overall: Obsessed. This book was such a solid read, and so enjoyable…

Review: The Roommate by Rosie Danan (2020)

Heat Factor: It’s sexy, but if you’re thinking it’s going to be super extra hot because the hero’s a porn star, I am here to tell you that is not the case

Character Chemistry: Josh is pretty cinnamon roll-y, so I feel like he has to have chemistry with his partner

Plot: Accidental roommates catch feelings

Overall: It would be great if we could get over our rigidly traditional views of monogamy and be happy for partners in healthy and meaningful relationships that might be different than our own. But I guess today is not that day.
