Review: The Will Darling Adventures by KJ Charles (2020-2021)

Heat Factor: They just crash into each other. It’s intense.

Character Chemistry: The way that Will knows he can’t trust Kim but also just really wants to love him is *chef’s kiss*

Plot: After WWI, Will Darling struggled with the return to civilian life until his uncle bequeathed him a bookshop. A bookshop that embroils him in a conspiracy, and brings into his life the perturbing and slippery Kim Secretan.

Overall: Exceptional. Absolutely exceptional.

Series Review: Embers Duology by Victoria Larque (2021)

Heat Factor: Pretty low heat, considering this is a demon romance

Character Chemistry: Fane teasing Mihr is the highlight of this duology

Plot: A demon and an angel escape from Hell together and make a lot of people really angry in the process

Overall: Demon Rising is really fun, but Angel Falling kinda dragged

Series Review: Maiden Lane by Elizabeth Hoyt (2010-2017)

Heat Factor: Above-average historical romance heat

Character Chemistry: Always solid—even if I hated the characters, they always seemed to like each other.

Plot: Something bonkers is definitely going down.

Overall: I binge-read this whole series over the course of about a month in the fall of 2021, and I have no regrets. These books are the perfect mix of romantic and bonkers.

Series Review: Daughters of Arianne by Joey W. Hill (2008–2009)

Heat Factor: There’s lotsa sex. Some of it is sexy. Some of it is wild. Some of it is BDSMy. And some of it is completely bonkers.

Character Chemistry: My female essence submits to your male energy.

Plot: A girl with a fish tail and a guy with wings hang out, do some traveling, and engage in an epic battle against the forces of evil. 

Overall: If you’re in the mood for bonkers morality-chain paranormal romance, then these books are wildly entertaining. With a lot of caveats.

Review: Wicked Intentions by Elizabeth Hoyt (2010)

Maiden Lane, Book #1

Heat Factor: There’s a scene where they’re looking through a peephole at a brothel and it only gets hotter from there.

Character Chemistry: Lazarus feels nothing, Temperance feels too much. They are perfect for each other.

Plot: Running around the slums on the hunt for a murderer.

Overall: Wow.
