Review: Miss Bennet’s Dragon by M. Verant (2021)

Austin Fantasy, Book #1

Heat Factor: It’s mostly about the pride and the prejudice and the pining

Character Chemistry: More readily apparent than in the original

Plot: It is Pride and Prejudice, but it is also a completely brand new fantasy story

Overall: It was about 30% longer than I expected, but I very much enjoyed the composition of this book.

Review: Admonition by Kathryn Amurra (2021)

Soothsayer’s Path, Book #2

Review of Soothsayer’s Path, Book #1

Heat Factor: It’s more tender and sweeping romance than it is ripped bodices and handsy stuff

Character Chemistry: So, I feel like it was obvious Sabina would like a wholehearted and upstanding person like Lucius after reading about her first marriage. Some people just have their heads on straight.

Plot: Sabina chooses a life of silence after she believes she’s responsible for her husband’s murder. But when she meets Lucius, her vow of solitude and silence is tested on all fronts.

Overall: I was actually riveted by the second Soothsayer book—the plot is really carefully unraveled and I loved the sweetness and maturity of Sabina and Lucius’ love for one another.

Review: The Wedding Night Affair by L.C. Sharp (2021)

Ash and Juliana, Book #1

Heat Factor: One kiss

Character Chemistry: Solid

Plot: Juliana wakes up after her (traumatizing) wedding night in a pool of her husband’s blood. Naturally, she is the prime suspect. She enlists the help of lawyer/investigator Ash to save herself from the gallows.

*Content Warning for violent sexual assault before the book opens. It’s never described, but it is frequently referred to, and enough details are included throughout the text for the reader to get a pretty good idea of how bad it was.

Overall: Disappointing

Review: Not Like the Movies by Kerry Winfrey (2020)

Waiting for Tom Hanks, #2

Review of Waiting for Tom Hanks #1

Heat Factor: There’s nothing. It’s closed door.

Character Chemistry: I think all the chemistry was actually in the first book

Plot: 30-ish woman having a meltdown

Overall: This is kind of like when you’re in your early 20s, listening to your friend constantly talk about the guy she’s obsessed with but refuses to do anything about it.

Review: Village Fool by ‘Nathan Burgoine (2021)

A Little Village Novella

Heat Factor: Sweet little kisses

Character Chemistry: They actually interact very little, but the way the story is told made me really want this for them

Plot: Man has had a secret crush on his former physiotherapist since physiotherapy started, and it gets blown wide open when his friend plays an April Fool prank on him

Overall: Some people might be super stressed by this prank, but I thought this story was ADORABLE
