Dueling Review: Love’s Serenade by Sheryl Lister (2018)

Decades: A Journey of African American Romance, Book #3

Holly’s Take

Heat Factor: Some cursory details.

Character Chemistry: They seem to have a chemical attraction that supersedes all of Miles’ bad behavior.

Plot: Miles woos Leigh, plus they write a song together.

Overall: The music details were fun, but that’s the only nice thing I can say.

Erin’s Take

Heat Factor: Nothing too involved – it’s kinda lavender

Character Chemistry: Ugh

Plot: Miles abandons Leigh then changes his mind 3 years later and that’s just supposed to be fine

Overall: DNF at 45%

Dueling Review: I Think I Might Need You by Christina C. Jones (2019)

Love Sisters, Book #2

Holly’s Take

Heat Factor: She climbs him like a tree

Character Chemistry: He wants to show her that this time around, he’s all in

Plot: Joia discovers she’s pregnant and has some processing to do

Overall: Everything about being an influencer sounds friggin awful, but this was an interesting romance

Erin’s Take

Heat Factor: He’s very enthusiastic with his mouth, and she’s very into it

Character Chemistry: They’ve got great repartee

Plot: Joia figures out how to be true to herself and find her best happiness when caught by a surprise pregnancy revelation

Overall: I had so much fun reading this book!

Ingrid’s Take

Heat Factor: There’s a stripping scene involving “Pony” by Ginuwine

Character Chemistry: They have that best friends banter with that one night stand heat

Plot: Joia discovers she pregnant–like, REALLY pregnant–and has to decide what she really wants her life to look like

Overall: I fell surprisingly hard into the ins and outs of being an influencer and what that must be like (very well written) and yes, it sounded like my worst nightmare but also the book was pretty sweet.

The Cider Bar Sisters, Book #4

Reviews of The Cider Bar Sisters Book #1, Book #2, Bonus Novella #2.5, and Book #3

Heat Factor: Once they jump in bed, boy oh boy do they jump in bed.

Character Chemistry: Sierra swears up and down that it’s not serious, but thinks that her next boyfriend is going to have a lot to live up to.

Plot: Jake falls in love with Sierra at first sight. Too bad she’s dating his former boss and all-around bad dude, billionaire Colton Sanders.

Overall: If you’re looking for fun and sexy, Jackie Lau doesn’t disappoint

Review: Mad for a Mate by MaryJanice Davidson (2022)

BeWere My Heart, Book #3

(It doesn’t say it’s part of the series on Goodreads or NetGalley, but it is.)

Reviews of BeWere My Heart Book #1 and Book #2

Heat Factor: The slowest of horny slow burns, with hot fading to deep purple after 90%

Character Chemistry: I liked them for each other, but there was more focus on the banter and the danger than on the emotional development

Plot: A loner werebear with a checkered past finds a naked woman washed up on his island. Then she hops up and swims off, and he goes after her. Banter ensues.

Overall: I definitely laughed out loud.

Review: Melt for You by J.T. Geissinger (2018)

Slow Burn, Book 2

Heat Factor: This series is called “Slow Burn,” so don’t be surprised when the sex happens pretty late in the story.

Character Chemistry: It’s obvious to everyone but Joellen that Cameron is completely smitten.

Plot: Joellen’s new neighbor is suuuuuper annoying and suuuuuper hot and somehow now he’s giving her kissing lessons.

Overall: I really liked this one, but I also know that some readers may find some parts of this book challenging.
