Review: The Bittersweet Bride by Vanessa Riley (2018)

Advertisements for Love, Book #1

Heat Factor: Everything is very proper; the door is firmly closed.

Character Chemistry: Ewan is too obtuse to have chemistry with anyone.

Plot: Dueling flower farms + Widow must protect her child + First love back from the dead + Battles over an inheritance + Newspaper advertisements for a husband

Overall: I haven’t been this angry about a hero in a long time.

Review: If the Boot Fits by Rebekah Weatherspoon (2020)

Cowboys of California, Book #2

(Review of Cowboys of California, Book #1)

Heat Factor: The characters talk freely and often but the action itself is not so lengthy or involved

Character Chemistry: Very natural and low key

Plot: Cinderella but with an Oscar-winning actor as the prince and a terrible employer as the steps

Overall: It wasn’t really a page turner, but it was very cozy

Review: Dream Spinner by Kristen Ashley (2021)

Dream Team, Book #3

Heat Factor: There is some explicit sexy sex, but for a KA novel, it’s surprisingly tame

Character Chemistry: One thing I enjoy about this series is that the relationship hangups are resolved pretty early on, and sometimes instead of huge relationship angst it’s nice to think about those early days of playing house and enjoying little things like your new lover cooking dinner for you or bringing you coffee in the morning.

Plot: The Super Bad Guys are messing with everybody (so, real talk, this one doesn’t really come through as a stand alone)

Overall: My feelings are mixed.

Review: How to Find a Princess by Alyssa Cole (2021)

Runaway Royals, Book #2

Heat Factor: Low heat

Character Chemistry: Sparkling

Plot: A Royal Investigator who follows the letter of the law but not the spirit + A Long-Lost Princess who has no interest in claiming the throne + A Transatlantic Voyage = Hijinks on the High Seas

Overall: It wrapped up abruptly, leaving me feeling vaguely dissatisfied

Review: Say Yes to the Duke by Eloisa James (2020)

The Wildes of Lindow Castle, Book #5

Review of the Wildes of Lindow Castle, Book #4

Heat Factor: They get married at about 70% and have a ton of really polite sex

Character Chemistry: I like the sparring partners thing they have going on. I am not excited about polite sex.

Plot: Shy young lady decides to woo proper vicar away from his terrible fiancée and intrigues the disdainful duke, who is clearly perfect for her, in the process

Overall: I put this book in timeout for a week because I was really worried about the black moment, but I needn’t have been
