Review: Blue Skies by Catherine Anderson (2004)

Coulter Family, Book #4

Heat Factor: He basically rapes her in Chapter 1, and then they very gently make love once or twice toward the end.

Character Chemistry: Some Old Skool Dynamics, for sure.

Plot: When Carly gets pregnant, she and Hank get Insurance Married.

Overall: I read this book fully expecting it to be cringe and ended up getting swept away. But now that I’m actually thinking about it, there was indeed a lot of cringe.

Review: Figure of Speech by Kasha Thompson (2022)

Heat Factor: The whole middle of the book is pretty much sex.

Character Chemistry: feelings are annoying

Plot: The new White House Press Secretary worked with the president once many years ago. This time he’s not about to let her get away.

Overall: I was put off by the way the president was initially represented (it’s single POV from Clover), and that kind of snowballed with other things as I continued to read

Review: Kiss Hard by Nalini Singh (2022)

Hard Play, Book #4

Reviews of Hard Play, Book #1, Book #2, Book #3

Heat Factor: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Is there anything like a conflagration of lust? There is not.

Character Chemistry: Perfection

Plot: Danny and Catie have enjoyed being each other’s nemeses since they were children, but when the media speculates they’ve hooked up, they decide to fake a relationship for a few months for the sake of their careers

Overall: Catnip. Pure, unadulterated catnip.

Dueling Review: Love’s Serenade by Sheryl Lister (2018)

Decades: A Journey of African American Romance, Book #3

Holly’s Take

Heat Factor: Some cursory details.

Character Chemistry: They seem to have a chemical attraction that supersedes all of Miles’ bad behavior.

Plot: Miles woos Leigh, plus they write a song together.

Overall: The music details were fun, but that’s the only nice thing I can say.

Erin’s Take

Heat Factor: Nothing too involved – it’s kinda lavender

Character Chemistry: Ugh

Plot: Miles abandons Leigh then changes his mind 3 years later and that’s just supposed to be fine

Overall: DNF at 45%

Dueling Review: I Think I Might Need You by Christina C. Jones (2019)

Love Sisters, Book #2

Holly’s Take

Heat Factor: She climbs him like a tree

Character Chemistry: He wants to show her that this time around, he’s all in

Plot: Joia discovers she’s pregnant and has some processing to do

Overall: Everything about being an influencer sounds friggin awful, but this was an interesting romance

Erin’s Take

Heat Factor: He’s very enthusiastic with his mouth, and she’s very into it

Character Chemistry: They’ve got great repartee

Plot: Joia figures out how to be true to herself and find her best happiness when caught by a surprise pregnancy revelation

Overall: I had so much fun reading this book!

Ingrid’s Take

Heat Factor: There’s a stripping scene involving “Pony” by Ginuwine

Character Chemistry: They have that best friends banter with that one night stand heat

Plot: Joia discovers she pregnant–like, REALLY pregnant–and has to decide what she really wants her life to look like

Overall: I fell surprisingly hard into the ins and outs of being an influencer and what that must be like (very well written) and yes, it sounded like my worst nightmare but also the book was pretty sweet.
