Review: Ascension by Jacqueline Koyanagi (2013)

Heat Factor: Mostly pining

Character Chemistry: Alana has a major boner for the ship, and a minor boner for the captain

Plot: Alana stows away on a ship whose crew is searching for her sister; many adventures ensue

Overall: This book was really slow and also really trippy

Review: Spice and Smoke by Suleikha Snyder (2012)

Bollywood Confidential, Book 1

Heat Factor: Based on the blurb, I was honestly expecting more sex (or kinkier sex?) than there was. There is definitely sex, but no group activities.

Character Chemistry: Lots of sexual attraction

Plot: More like three short stories than one cohesive novella

Overall: In an author’s note to the current edition, Snyder refers to this book as “banana-pants” and she is not wrong.

Review: Scandalous Passions by Nicola Davidson (2020)

Highland Menage, Book 1

Heat Factor: There is a great deal of “feasting” happening

Character Chemistry: I’m not sure I would have known that feelings were happening if I hadn’t been explicitly told

Plot: King’s former mistress is banished from the castle, ordered to be guardian of the king’s virgin ward, and protected by the king’s loyal knight

Overall: Kind of felt like a manual for having consensual sex

Review: The Priest by Tiffany Reisz (2020)

Original Sinners, Book 9

Review of Original Sinners Book 1 (loved it!), Book 2 (eh)

Heat Factor: As expected, there’s a lot of sex.

Character Chemistry: Nora and Cyrus have good banter. And Nora and Søren have some beautiful moments.

Plot: A priest has committed suicide; right before he killed himself, he tried to call Nora. She had never met the man, so when Cyrus the private detective starts investigating, she helps him crack the case.

Overall: Some aspects of this book are really excellent, but I would not recommend The Priest to anyone who was not already well-versed in the Original Sinners universe.

Review: The Angel by Tiffany Reisz (2012)

Original Sinners, Book 2

Review of Original Sinners, Book 1

Heat Factor: There is a lot of sex, between a bunch of different people (separately and together).

Character Chemistry: Everyone is beautiful, and everyone wants to get laid.

Plot: There’s a submissive in training. There’s a priest under investigation. And there’s a writer trying to figure out the truth in her heart.

Overall: There are a lot of dyads here, and while one couple does get a HEA, others do not. I would place this firmly in the category of erotica, rather than romance.
