Series Review: The Princess Shanyin Saga by Liliana Lee (2014)

Heat Factor: These books go on the Erotica shelf

Character Chemistry: There’s a cosmic connection, but I don’t always buy it

Plot: Princess Shanyin gets a hot young lord sent to her harem. Power plays (and lots of sex) ensue

Overall: If you’re looking for high-brow reverse-harem erotica with bonus disturbing political machinations set in 5th century China, The Obsession is excellent. If you want the HEA, read the full series—but note that The Enslavement and The Fulfillment are less tightly written.

Review: The Princess Stakes by Amelie Howard (2021)

Heat Factor: There’s a lot of sexual inneundo, and then they get busy on a ballroom terrace. And also in a closet.

Character Chemistry: They love/hate each other, so they torment each other.

Plot: Sarani’s on the run after her father’s murder, and ends up on the ship of her first love, who now wants revenge

Overall: Eh. I found the romance lacking.

Runaway Royals, Book #2

Heat Factor: Low heat

Character Chemistry: Sparkling

Plot: A Royal Investigator who follows the letter of the law but not the spirit + A Long-Lost Princess who has no interest in claiming the throne + A Transatlantic Voyage = Hijinks on the High Seas

Overall: It wrapped up abruptly, leaving me feeling vaguely dissatisfied

Review: The Dragon Prince’s Bride by Elva Birch (2021)

Royal Dragons of Alaska, Book #3

Reviews of Royal Dragons of Alaska: Book #1, Book #2

Heat Factor: Not closed door, but not very intense or explicit

Character Chemistry: The way they go through their captivity together is just absolutely charming

Plot: You think it’s going to be an angsty, pining, stealing-the-fiancée kind of a thing, but then they get kidnapped and everything goes sideways

Overall: My favorite so far in this series. SO FUN.
