Review: Dragon Prince’s Secret by Elva Birch (2022)

Royal Dragons of Alaska, Book #4

Reviews of the rest of the Royal Dragons of Alaska series: Book #1, Book #2, Book #3

Heat Factor: There’s really just one scene (not long) and everything else is off page

Character Chemistry: He can feel the mating bond, but she can’t!

Plot: The mysterious Kenth appears in the castle bellowing about his kidnapped daughter. His family is shocked to see him, but he’s shocked to see that the stranger in their midst is his mate.

Overall: I wasn’t as invested in Mackenzie and Kenth as I have been in other brothers’ stories, but the growth of the overarching series plot was really interesting.

Review: Stronger Than Hope by Katherine McIntyre (2022)

Chesapeake Days, Book #1

Heat Factor: 👨‍❤️‍💋‍👨🍆🍑🍆🍑🍆🍑👨‍❤️‍💋‍👨

Character Chemistry: OMGGGGG, he’s so hot (and he has a great personality, too)

Plot: Nate, recently dumped and starting over in a small town, almost runs over Linc, single dad widower who’s stifled in the small town, so obviously they’re MFEO but it takes a while to get there

Overall: This was a very chill read

Review: The Shutout by Dianna Roman (2022)

Heat Factor: They have a lot of sex. And it’s good sex.

Character Chemistry: Really awesome friends to lovers energy.

Plot: Closeted baseball player kisses his widowed best friend, kicking off a series of events that leads to Max’s bi-awakening and Jack’s outing.

Overall: This had a great skeleton (see above). I’m really sad that it apparently didn’t also have a sensitivity read because it also had a lot of problematic content.

Review: Sink or Swim by Annabeth Albert (2022)

Shore Leave, Book #2

Review of Short Leave, Book #1

Heat Factor: So tender! There’s not a lot of sex in this book, and it mostly occurs relatively early on.

Character Chemistry: “I don’t trust you, but you’re definitely hot, and we’re stuck together in this cabin.” → “OMG, feelings!”

Plot: Calder “wins” a cabin from Felix’s mean ex-husband, they end up stuck together there for a weekend, and why wouldn’t that result in a friends-with-benefits-but-actually-dating situationship?

Overall: If you are looking for Big Hug Energy in your romance, this whole relationship is that

Review: Wisdom Check by Katherine McIntyre (2022)

Dungeons and Dating, Book #2

Review of Dungeons and Dating, Book #1

Heat Factor: They’re super horny. But more importantly, this book prompted me to Google men’s lace panties, so now I’ve seen that

Character Chemistry: I was very convinced that Cal and Jules were totally into each other

Plot: Why have one obstacle to the relationship when we can have one obstacle every other chapter?

Overall: This book was charming, and the aforementioned obstacles reasonably kept the tension up throughout the book.
