Review: Heartstopper: Volume 2 by Alice Oseman (2018)

Heartstopper, Book #2

Review of Heartstopper, Book #1

Heat Factor: So much making out. (Ah, the high school nostalgia)

Character Chemistry: Sweetness overload. These boys are so kind.

Plot: Charlie kissed Nick and now he thinks their friendship is over, but Nick is realizing that those feelings he’s been having mean something, so now it’s time to navigate a secret relationship

Overall: My high school first love nostalgia trip continues but with much sweeter and more nurturing kids.

Dueling Review, Rant

Dueling Review: I’m So (Not) Over You by Kosoko Jackson (2022)

Holly’s Take

Heat Factor: The first kiss happened around halfway, and then I called it quits.

Character Chemistry: Textbook definition of a toxic relationship.

Plot: Hudson bribes Kian into doing a fake relationship with him by promising an introduction to a guy who can get Kian his dream job.

Overall: DNF at the halfway point.

Ingrid’s Take

Heat Factor: I mean, it was nice and steamy.

Character Chemistry: I could see the chemistry but there were so many aspects that didn’t seem to get worked out, that I didn’t necessarily buy in all the way.

Plot: Kian agrees to pretend to be Hudson’s boyfriend again despite his better judgment so that Hudson can get Kian a job that is supposed to launch his journalism career.

Overall: I ended up with very mixed feelings about this one.

Erin’s Take

Heat Factor: They have very playful sex.

Character Chemistry: Horny, not healthy.

Plot: Hudson inexplicably dumped Kian three months ago, but now he’s back asking Kian to fake being his boyfriend again because he never got around to telling his parents they broke up.

Overall: This should have been a 300 page grovel and IT WAS NOT.

Heartstopper, Book #1

Heat Factor: First kiss

Character Chemistry: There are so many blushing faces images. It’s adorable.

Plot: Charlie, a nerd, is seated next to rugby lad Nick in class, and their unlikely friendship develops into a troublesome crush

Overall: Sweetness overload. I bought the next three books. Whoops.

Review: Under Pressure by Allie Winters (2021)

Lessons Learned Book #1

Heat Factor: SOOOOO hot. So hot.

Character Chemistry: These two. These TWO. She sees him, he brings out her shiny backbone. Love love.

Plot: Mia and Tyler end up as partners in a lab psychology lab project and while they start out rubbing each other the wrong way it doesn’t take them very long to rub each other the RIGHT way, much to Tyler’s dismay

Overall: Just…a flurry of feelings and then really well-written whoopie, and then feelings, and then I cried, and I loved it so much. So, so much.

Review: First and Only by Allie Winters (2020)

Suncoast University, Book 4

Reviews of previous books in the Suncoast University series: Book 1, Book 2, Book 3

Heat Factor: So, so steamy it’ll be a hazard for the glasses-wearing folks

Character Chemistry: They didn’t stand a chance…just the way we like it!

Plot: Jake needs a tutor after his athletic career goes down the toilet after an injury and Eden needs to learn how to be a young adult, basically. A sexy, coming-of-age, teach-me-how-to-do-sexy-things type book that unfolds deliciously slow.

Overall: This whole series is just itching to be read in one long weekend.
