Review: 44.1611° North by Josh Lanyon (2023)

Heat Factor: It’s euphemistic until it’s not

Character Chemistry: Long distance is probably worth it, right?

Plot: A professor of criminology with a true crime podcast hobby gets a mysterious and threatening letter regarding an unsolved missing persons case nearly twenty years old, and just when he thinks nobody cares, a sexy FBI agent shows up at the victim’s disappearance vigil to help solve the mystery

Overall: I was in the mood for romantic suspense, and it really hit the spot

Review: Suddenly Squirrel by Elva Birch (2023)

Suddenly Shifters, Book #5

Heat Factor: Gary was more forward than I expected

Character Chemistry: Suddenly don’t hate each other, suddenly sex…It all happens pretty suddenly

Plot: Gary feels unwell one night and wakes up able to shift into a squirrel. When he goes to the library for answers, he gets some help from his neighbor, Marie, who is super grumpy.

Overall: The amount of musical theater tune references in this book is really something

Review: After Hours on Milagro Street by Angelina M. Lopez (2022)

Heat Factor: How is Lopez so good at writing sex scenes that are emotionally kinda ugly but still so hot?

Character Chemistry: Boning → antagonism → cooperation → admiration → more boning, this time with feelings

Plot: Alex goes back to her hometown to take over the family bar, only to discover that her grandma is considering selling the bar to someone else. Also, there’s a scavenger hunt for some long-lost paperwork. And a ghost.

Overall: It prompted a lot of thinky thoughts, but the romance didn’t really hit for me.

Review: Make Me Yours by Katee Robert (2019)

The Make Me Series, Book #3

Heat Factor: Lotsa orgasms

Character Chemistry: Do they have things in common? Does it matter if they’re sexually compatible?

Plot: Becka and Aaron have a one-night stand and oops! Now she’s pregnant.

Overall: This book was not for me

Review: At Attention by Annabeth Albert (2017)

Out of Uniform, Book #2

Heat Factor: It’s sexy – they get up to all kinds of things when they get some privacy – but it’s mostly yearning

Character Chemistry: Oh my word, the pining!

Plot: Widower is goaded (jealousy is such an instigator!) into helping out his bestie by letting the little brother room with his family over the summer in exchange for childcare.

Overall: This book was so charming but it was also delightfully thrilling
